The European Academy of Sciences and Arts, headquartered in Vienna, is a network of scholars of many different fields who, besides being competent specialists, are interested in mankind’s future and its ethical implications.

The Academy was established in 1990. Then, at the end of the ‘cold war’, the need arose in Europe for wider dialogue on ideologies, scientific cultures and academic thinking.

Today, the Academy brings together over 1200 artists, doctors, ecologists, educators, lawyers, philosophers, politicians, scientists, sociologists, theologians, writers, etc. They are mainly from Europe, including the former Eastern Block, but also from Asia and the USA.

There are several Nobel laureates among the members. The Academy’s protectors include European Heads of States: HM Juan Carlos de Bourbon (Spain), HRH Jean de Luxembourg (Luxembourg), President V. Havel (Czech Republic), President J. Rau (Germany), President F. Mádl (Hungary), President C. A. Ciampi (Italy), and President R. Schuster (Slovak Republic), as well as the President of the European Commission, Professor R. Prodi.
