The Institute of Advanced Studies on Sustainability (IoS) is an integral part of the European Academy of Sciences and Arts (EASA). It was founded in June 2002, on advise of Prof. Dr. George Pethes, Vice-President of EASA, and is headquatered in Garching (near Munich), Germany. It serves as a centre of excellence, and provides service to the governments in Europe as well as to the private sector and to the scientific community.
IoS acts in close cooperation with the Technische Universitaet Muenchen (TUM), particularly in the framework of the TUM Institute of Advanced Studies (IAS).
The Institute is supported by the "Verein zur Foerderung von weitergehenden Studien zur Nachhaltigkeit e.V.". For more information see the chapter on the Association.
